ABSTRACTS

Chiropractic Management of the Acute Febrile Paediatric Patient

NEIL J. DAVIES

Chiropractic management of the acute febrile paediatric patient is discussed with emphasis on differential diagnostic factors which are readily obtained and which, properly interpreted, indicate a clear need for referral to other health care providers more expert in emergency care. A case report is given to illustrate this need and a diagnostic flow plan for use when confronted by such a case is presented.

Vascular Accidents from Cervical Spine Manipulation: The Mechanisms

ALLAN G.J. TERRETT

Vascular accidents have been the major criticism of spinal manipulative therapy (SMT). The occurrence of such accidents can be minimised if all practitioners of SMT understand the mechanisms of injury and choose examination procedures and manipulative techniques accordingly.

Workers Compensation 1986-The Perception of Victorian Chiropractors

JENNIFER R. JAMISON, ELIZABETH J. McKAY and CHRISTINA E. RODES

A questionnaire regarding Worker's Compensation legislation and procedures was circulated to all practising chiropractors in Victoria. The survey attempts to assess how well informed chiropractors are about the scheme and to identify problems encountered in its utilisation. This paper presents the results of the survey and outlines current work care procedures in 1986. Ongoing changes are occurring in this field.

Recently Graduated Chiropractors in Australia, Part 2: Certain Professional Attitudes and Practice Characteristics

MICHAEL N. WEBB and CHARLOTTE LEBOEUF

A survey of recently graduated chiropractors now practising in Australia showed a mixed response to some classical chiropractic premises. Patient load and patient visits were related to such attitudes. The majority of patients were considered to have musculoskeletal disorders as their main complaint, and only a minority of patients were seen as maintenance cases. The respondents were generally satisfied with patient load, income and work situation.
